WELCOME LETTER TO ROTARY SPOUSES

As co-presidents Eloise Siskel and Kathie Gauld begin a year of Rotary service by inviting all spouses of Rotary members to join our friendly group.  The Westwood Village Rotary Club's Auxiliary is the only such group in the District and perhaps in California.

It plans entertaining and informative programs through the year, usually lunches at members' homes with a variety of speakers.  Recent programs have included a Philharmonic violinist, a flower arranging session, world travelers and book reviews.

The Auxiliary takes bus trips -- to the Planetarium one year and to the murals at Union Station last year.

Its not-so-silent auction of treasures donated by members raises funds for the late summer Fun Party which will be Peggy's Dude Ranch on Saturday, August 28 this year.

The Auxiliary's aim is to strengthen friendships, support worthy causes and help with Rotary projects.

All Rotary spouses are invited to join.  Dues are $25 a year.  Auxiliary meetings and projects are publicized in the Windmill and on the website.

Auxiliary co-presidents Kathie and Eloise extend a friendly welcome to all Rotarians and their spouses to join in the activities of a special group.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

The Auxiliary calendar of 2010-2011 events starts Tuesday, October 12, 2010, with a talk by Westwood Village Rotarian Nevin Senkan talking about a WVRC project helping children in Turkey.  Nevin will also show slides of the children.

Other 2010 events include a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, November 10, and the holiday party on Wednesday, December 8.

And in 2011 the Auxiliary meets Tuesday, January 11; sponsors the Sweetheart Brunch on Saturday, February 12; meets Wednesday, March 9 and hosts a Spring Tea on Tuesday, April 12.

The annual field trip will be Tuesday, May 10, and new officers will be installed at a luncheon on Wednesday, June 8.

2010 FUN PARTY

With 67  party reservations a large group of Westwood Village Rotarians enjoyed "Peggy's Dude Ranch" Saturday night, August 28, at a festive party sponsored by the club's Auxiliary.
Rosalind and Don Nelson, co-chairs, lead the group from decorating Peggy Bloomfield's gardens with twinkle lights, bandanas and hurricane candles, to heading the cleanup crew the next day.  A Rotary duo fiddled Western tunes and a cowboy BBQ featured barbecued ribs, cole slaw and baked beans.
Shirley More designed the old-fashioned strawberry shortcake dessert while Don and Steve Day were bartenders.  Margie Downie and Leo Tseng supplied the lighting and Eloise Siskel headed the table decorations committee.
Guests' Western outfits included lots of turquoise and boots, straw hats with Rotary buttons, and more than one Rotarian stashed a beverage in his holster.
Among the guests were former Westwood Rotarians including Bill Bloomfield from Manhattan Beach and Betty and Ralph Woodworth from Palm Springs.
