The purpose of this avenue of service is to involve every member of the Club in an effort to advance international understanding good will and peace by using the unique resources of Rotary, worldwide.  Activities of this Committee Include:

  • Matched District and Club.  The Matched District and Club Program is a plan in which each Rotary's-district and non-districted clubs are matched with another district, or districts, for the purpose of increasing contacts between Rotary clubs and Rotarians in different countries.
  • World Community Service. To mobilize the resources of members of our Rotary Club and others in our community in sponsoring, with cooperation of Rotarians abroad, world community (outside of one's own country) projects. Westwood has in the past done such things as:
    • Provide needed equipment to refurbish a cafeteria in an orphanage in Ensenada.
    • Provide a kidney dialysis machine to a general hospital in Guadalajara.
    • Provide Eyeglasses to partially-sighted individuals in Ghana
    • Build a water well in the Phillipines
  • International Youth Projects.  Brings young people from abroad to study in our community, or vice versa; also extends hospitality to foreign students currently enrolled in nearby schools.
  • Rotary Foundation. The objective of Rotary Foundation is the furthering of understanding and friendly relations between: peoples of different nations through the fostering of tangible and effective projects of a philanthropic charitable or educational nature. The most well known of the projects is the Rotary Foundation Fellowships. The fellowships provide funds for one year (academic) of study abroad. The categories of awards are: Graduate, Undergraduates Technical Trainee, Journalism, and Teacher of the Handicapped. The purpose of this committee is to spread knowledge of and promote support for the Rotary Foundation. Rotary Foundation Activities include:
    • a) Recruit- students at local universities and institutions to apply for Foundation Fellowships.
    • b) Raise funds for the Foundation. Publicize giving in terms of Paul Harris Fellows or Sustaining Members.
    • c) Find hosts and for sponsors for Foundation Fellows from other countries who are assigned to study here in District 5280.
    • d) Publicize the activities of the Group.
